折々の言葉

4月から朝日新聞一面に、
折々の言葉というコーナーができた。

悶々とする心をふっと解放してくれたり、
やる気を加速させてくれたり、

たまたま出会った言葉が人生の道を照らしてくれることは
少なからずあると思うから、

折々の言葉ってのはいいネーミングだなと思う。

最近、個人的にかなり心にグッととくる言葉に
出会った。
エラ•ウィーラー•ウィルコックスという、
アメリカの女性詩人の言葉。

One ship drives east and another drives west
With the selfsame winds that blow.
'Tis the set of the sails,And Not the gales,
That tell us the way to go.

Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate;
As we voyage along through life,
'Tis the set of a soul
That decides its goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

人生の行く末を決めるのは、なぎでも嵐でもなく、心の持ちようである。
